The schedules are printed and about to be distributed to all the usual venues for you to pick up. Everything in the garden is growing! It never ceases to surprise how quickly plants get going once the warmer weather arrives and of course they do require water too!

We are looking forward to welcoming you to the Village Hall to register your entries for the Flower Show this afternoon.

We were very sorry to learn that our wonderful Floral Arrangements Judge, Gill Powell-Jones, has had to pull out as her partner has tested positive for Covid, but we are very lucky that Gill Homer of Gills Flowers in Rose Green has agreed to step in. Visit her website gills-flowers.co.uk

So… here we are in July already and many of us enjoying a less austere Covid19 lockdown.  The big difference this week is that normally the Committee and our many wonderful volunteer helpers would be busy preparing for GALA DAY on Saturday:  registration of exhibits for the Show online or in person before Thursday evening, collecting items for all the stalls, baking cakes for the teas and preparing the sports field for the Show marquee and stall gazebos.  In 2019 there were over 400 exhibits in the marquee, please help to achieve somewhere near this number of photos in the Virtual Flower Show galleries… that would be amazing!  We really hope that in the absence of the Gala this year, this week you will send to showmanager@mundhamgala.co.uk  your photos of garden produce, flowers & plants, art, crafts and cookery.  We are very grateful for the many photos that have already been posted in the galleries but we would love to see more and to share them with friends and neighbours via this Gala website.

Sunday 29 March 2020

This time last month we were looking forward to the beginning of the Spring planting season; Spring onions, shallots, garlic, lettuces, tomatoes  and lots more plus a wonderful variety of plants and seedlings in readiness for this year’s Gala on 11th July.

However, this month, sadly, I have to tell you that the Gala Committee has taken the difficult decision, along with many other local and national event organisers, to cancel this year’s Gala.

The Gala is one of the traditional highlights of the year in our villages; however, much of the preparation and marketing is based on personal contact, so for this year, we shall have to forego the excitement of competition in the marquee and the buzz on the field around the many stalls and attractions.

Many of us will be staying at home for the foreseeable future, but there’s always a silver lining.    For keen gardeners, cooks, flower arrangers, painters, photographers, young and old, it could mean more time in the garden or at the allotment, or sewing, and so on.   We can still enjoy growing, cutting, harvesting and generally nurturing our plants this year in readiness for a bumper Gala next year.   When this difficult time is over the Mundham & District Gala hope to join forces with others in the community, putting our resources to good use, to help the village celebrate!   In the meantime, stay well, stay safe and please put the date for next year’s Gala in your diary : Saturday 17th July 2021!

Tuesday 25 February 2020

The Show Manager and other members of the Committee are working hard to prepare the Schedule of Classes for this year.  Hope that you are planning your seeds, planting and handicrafts ready for July.  The wet and windy weather must stop soon and spring is just around the corner.

Tuesday 13 August 2019
